Young Children & Worship:
Twin Pines offers innovative learning experiences for children aged 3 through 8 during worship with Children Worship & Wonder. Developed by Sonja M. Stewart and Jerome W. Berryman this program which utilizes a sensorimotor style of storytelling as a primary means for encountering God, so God is experienced, not just learned. It gives appropriate freedom, so young children can respond to stories of God through continued working with the story figures and art materials. It enables young children to bring their lived experiences into dialogue with God in the biblical stories. And, remarkably, it provides a way for young children to tell the stories of God to others. Here they abide in God’s love as experienced in biblical stories, parables, and liturgical presentations, in order to make meaning and order in their lives and, as the body of Christ, live as Christ’s ministers in the world.

Twin Pines Christian Church will be hosting a youth event on Race and Reconciliation for the MLK holiday weekend. Chi-Rho and CYF youth from area Disciples’ congregations are invited to participate. Our evening begins by gathering at Central Christian Church for the community worship service on Sunday January 17th, from there travel to Twin Pines for a meal, fellowship, games, sharings from Emily Christmas (Global Ministries Intern, South Africa) as well as live entertainment from a local youth band—and end the evening with a few hours of sleep. Monday morning, we will gather for breakfast and a brief worship service and then will depart to participate in the MLK walk in downtown Lexington. Youth and youth sponsors are encouraged to take part in community MLK activities before departing for home. It is our hope to reach out to as many youth as possible from as many diverse cultural backgrounds as possible to discuss and learn to break down the barriers that separate God's people from one-another. Join us in learning how the dedicated few can work to create change in our own little corner of the world. The cost for this event is $5 per person to help off-set the cost of food.
